about the program

Our Barbering program will give you hands-on experience with shaving, haircutting, scalp treatments, styling techniques, coloring, chemical texture services and more. We offer both full and part-time programs.

Plus, you’ll get the chance to practice and gain real-world experience working with clients at our on-site, fully student-run Emily’s Salon & Barbershop. You’ll learn the rules and regulations necessary to get your barbering license, as well as the skills you need to open and run your own barbershop.

By applying to this program, you understand the Academic Preparedness and Physical Requirements below.

Academic Preparedness:

  • Ability and stamina to manage daily reading (20-30 pages per day), workbook assignments, and associated exams that occur several times per week, in preparation and completion of the state licensure exam.
  • English language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Use hands, arms, and legs to feel, control, manipulate and use objects, tools, and controls. 
  • Make repetitive movements, such as, bending, twisting or reaching. 
  • Hold arms and hands steady. 
  • Communicate effectively with instructor(s), classmates, and clients.
  • Make quick and precise adjustments to controls. 
  • See details in objects less than a few feet away, including color, texture, shade, and brightness.
  • Maintain safety protocols when working with sharp objects, excessive heat, and chemicals for treatments and sanitization. 
  • Differentiate between sounds.

  • Get your student ID. You can get your student ID at Treasury.
  • The program is offered at 1860 Lincoln St., Denver, CO
  • The program is delivered in a hybrid format. Meaning some of your instruction, class time, and coursework will be completed at home and some will be done in the classroom/clinic.
    • Students are expected to be in a learning environment doing coursework for the duration of class time. Students are not allowed to work during scheduled class hours.
    • Your instructor will inform you of your on-site class hours and provide you with your virtual Google Meet link a week before class starts.
  • Due to the delivery, this program will require computer use and internet access. If you need assistance obtaining technology, please contact student.success@emilygriffith.edu.
  • Assignments completed virtually will be done using our learning system, Moodle. You will not be able to access Moodle until you have paid for your classes.
  • Books and Kit are included and will be handed out in class. These items are non-returnable.
  • Near the end of the program, be prepared to buy supplies for your state board kit. Your instructor will inform you of what supplies to purchase.

You must follow all school policies for in-person and virtual learning at all times.

The Code of Conduct and other program policies will be reviewed in class.

  • You are not allowed to miss more than 32 hours of instruction per level.
    • These hours reset at each level of the program.
    • This includes arriving late and leaving class early.
  • Missed hours cannot be made-up. You will need to re-enroll in a future cohort.
    • Enrollment in future cohorts is dependent on pending space and availability.
  • Student IDs must be worn at all times while on school property and during any off-campus school activities.
  • You must wear the provided smock at all times when in Emily’s Salon and Barbershop.
  • Hair and nails should be kept clean and groomed at all times.
  • Wear professional yet sensible attire.
  • No low-cut shirts, sweatpants, or short skirts/shorts will be permitted at any time.
  • If you are wearing leggings and/or a skirt, you must have a shirt/skirt no shorter than 2 inches above the knee.
  • No open-toed shoes (i.e. sandals, flip-flops, shower shoes).
  • Pants must be worn at the waist (no sagging pants).
  • No profanity or offensive wording on clothing, including smocks.
  • Sunglasses are not to be worn during school hours, unless outside.
  • Odors from smoke, excessive perspiration, perfume, or other sources are not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Odors can be disruptive and even cause physical symptoms to clients and other students.
  • Students not following the dress code will be asked to change or leave. Being asked to leave will count as missed time.
