PRE-ACADEMIC AND COMMUNITY ENGLISH (PACE)
OVERVIEW
The Pre-Academic and Community English (PACE) program is our academic English program that helps students improve their everyday English and develop skills to excel in their education, employment, and community. Students can take multiple classes at a time to focus on the language skills of their choice.
ELIGIBILITY
PACE classes are open to all English language learners, regardless of immigration status.
**Students in PACE classes are not eligible for a Student Visa.
COST
Tuition varies by class selection and ranges from $150.00 to $500.00* per class each 8-week term. Students may qualify for a scholarship although it is not guaranteed.

The PACE Program has 5 eight-week terms per year. Students can apply at any time. Registration is available online or in-person during the 3 weeks prior to term start dates.Â
Registration Steps for New Students
New students can complete step 1 at any time. Registration steps 2-6 must be completed during the registration period. Returning students who have not studied at Emily Griffith in the last year will be required to complete steps 2 – 6. Registration updates and reminders will be sent via email after completing the application.Â

- Navigator will register you for class(es) and give you class details
- Pay tuition before your first day of class
- Students who need financial help can apply for a scholarship

Students will learn how English sentences are made. They’ll practice using grammar in reading, listening, speaking, and writing.

Students will improve their ability to speak and understand conversational English. Students will practice discussions, interviews, listening exercises, and related vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.

The Vocational Transitions class is for level 4 and 5 English students who want to study in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) college program at Emily Griffith Technical College. Students will learn reading and academic skills to help them be successful in the college program.

FAQs
You can complete all of the steps in the registration process online, and you will receive communication via email. You can come into our office on the 6th floor at 1860 Lincoln St. for help with any step in the registration process.

Emily Griffith Technical College offers scholarships that cover 20 – 30% of the cost of your classes. Scholarships are awarded on a first come first serve basis, so register for classes early!
You can also set up a payment plan with Treasury. A payment plan will split the cost of your courses into two equal payments. The first payment must be made before your first day of class, and the second payment will be due the following month. You can request a payment plan online or contact the Treasury to set up a payment plan. View payment information.

You may qualify for WIOA funding to pay for classes. Please talk to one of our staff members for more information.
We accept third-party funding from employers, agencies, or other individuals who have agreed to pay for your classes. Please contact Treasury if you are expecting third-party funding.

You can change your class schedule up until the census date, which is usually within the first week of class. However, we recommend you let us know before classes start.
We welcome Au Pairs! Our Navigator can help you select classes based on your learning needs and desired number of credits. After each 8-week term, you may request a certificate including the hours and credit for your classes.
Yes, you may request a certificate by completing this online Certificate Request form. Our team will review and process your request. Please allow up to 5 business days.
PACE/GED – You can help your family member or friend complete the online application. However, they will also need to take a placement test and select classes. You should not help with the placement test. If your friend or family member comes to our office on the 6th floor at 1860 Lincoln St., we can also help with all steps in the registration process. We use an interpretation phone service so that we can communicate with your friend or family member in their language.
