how much does it cost?

Today, scholarships and financial aid are an important part of our educational access. Here’s a snapshot of how tuition and financial aid breakdown at Emily Griffith:

Average Program Tuition: $6,700

Average Financial Aid Award: $5,090

Average Out-of-Pocket Cost: $1,610

residency

Emily Griffith is a public college. Your residency status helps determine your tuition. Here’s how to determine your residency:

in-state

Under Colorado law, to be eligible for in-state (resident) tuition rates, you must have lived in Colorado for one full calendar year prior to the stated date of classes and be in the United States legally. Undocumented and DACA students can qualify for Colorado ASSET In-State Tuition. Please see the Colorado ASSET website for eligibility information.

In accordance with HB06S-1023, which was signed into law by the Governor on July 31, 2006, CCHE and the institutions of higher education are required to verify the lawful presence of all applicants for public postsecondary education benefits. Emily Griffith Technical College requires all students to provide documentation that they are legally in the United States.

out-of-state

You are considered an out-of-state or non-resident student if you have not lived in Colorado for one year prior to the date of starting class and/or if you are a visa student. Nonresident tuition is computed at $2.50 additional per clock hour for your program. Clock hours are the actual hours you are in class.

Noncredit courses:

The cost is the same for nonresident and resident students in Continuing Education (CTE), Adult Education and Language Learning programs.

Net Price Calculator
(Tuition estimate)

The Net Price Calculator is an interactive tool that will give you an estimate of how much financial aid you might receive for your program. Keep in mind, this is just an estimate, but it will give you an idea of what your out-of-pocket costs might be.
For questions about this tool, please contact Financial Aid.

Program costs vary. Please visit the specific program page for cost.

Some programs may require additional fees for books and materials.

refunds

In the event, you have to withdraw or the College needs to make a schedule change, here is what to expect regarding refunds:

  • 100% of tuition and fees will be refunded if you drop prior to the beginning of class.
  • 100% of tuition and fees will be refunded if we close a class due to insufficient enrollment.
  • 100% of tuition and technology and capital improvement fees will be refunded if you drop and your last day of attendance was before the census date. Books, materials/kits, digital media and partial payment fees will not be refunded.
  • No refunds will be allocated if your last date of attendance was after the census date. (Our census date is when we finalize enrollment, typically five days after classes start.)
  • Any dispute regarding refunds after the census date will follow the tuition-and-fee refund appeals process.
  • If you are on a payment plan, all refunds will be reduced by the $20 non-refundable payment plan fee.

If you withdraw from Emily Griffith and you’ve been receiving financial aid grant money, the Financial Aid office will determine the grant portion that must be returned to the funding organization and the portion that belongs to you within 45 days. The Treasurer’s office will contact you if a credit exists. You should receive that refund seven days later.

It is possible that if you are eligible for a financial aid refund, you might still owe an outstanding balance with the Treasurer’s office. You should see the Treasurer’s office to confirm the balance. It’s possible that you will receive a financial aid refund, but will still be expected to return a portion due to enrollment status (for example, having dropped a course after receiving the refund).

Are you taking part in a program that takes place over more than one academic year? Then you are a continuing student. As a continuing student, you might face the following situation:

If you have a credit from a financial aid grant on your account as of June 30 of the school year, Emily Griffith will return the grant credit to you. Keep in mind: You may need to use these funds for future classes. Upon receipt of these funds, you become responsible for the payment of all future classes. Payment plans will become void if returned grant money is not applied to the balance of future tuition and fees.

Do you need to appeal a refund decision? Here’s how:

  1. Appeal requests should be submitted to the Treasury within one year of your withdrawal date. Appeals submitted more than one year after the withdrawal date will not be reviewed.
  2. We can approve a refund appeal for only one semester during your entire academic career at Emily Griffith Technical College, even if you have documentation that substantiates an extraordinary event and an appeal for tuition and fee refund is approved. This includes all voluntary and involuntary separations. For example, if you have a health condition prior to enrolling in coursework, make an informed decision (possibly in consultation with your physician) about whether or not you can attend class. Emily Griffith only grants appeals on a one-time basis for a given medical condition. That said, you may have the opportunity to withdraw from coursework with a grade of “W” in future semesters, assuming you meet all deadlines and regulations related to withdrawal.

Financial Aid Impact:

If you have financial aid for the semester and you are appealing, you may have to return your financial aid, in partial or in full, if the appeal is approved.

Books and Supplies:

Books, supplies, kits and consumables are non-refundable.

Supporting Documentation:

You will be asked to provide supporting documentation for the situations below. If documentation is not in English, it will not be accepted, unless it has been translated.

  • Medical – Please supply a dated and signed letter from your doctor explaining the illness on letterhead, medical bills or other medical documentation.
  • Death of an Immediate Family Member – A death certificate or an obituary from the newspaper must be provided. (Pamphlets from the funeral will not be accepted.) The death must be from your immediate family, this includes spouse, parents and grandparents, children and grandchildren, brothers and sisters, mother-in-law and father-in-law, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law. Adopted, half and step members are also considered immediate family.
  • Active Duty Deployment – Deployment papers for Active Duty must be provided. They must state Active Duty, not training.
  • College Error – Provide a dated and signed explanation on Emily Griffith Technical College letterhead from the appropriate administrator (dean level or higher) stating the situation and identifying the College’s error.

Additional Information:

  • If you are appealing departmental fees, library fees, etc., this is out of the Appeal Committee’s purview and your request will not be reviewed.
  • If you are appealing due to work-related issues or failure to receive expected funding such as loans, Veteran Affairs support, funding, sponsorships, etc., your request will not be considered.
