OVERVIEW

Emily Griffith Technical College partners with the Colorado Department of Education Concurrent Enrollment Program offering high school students within Denver Public Schools, charter schools, and non-DPS schools interested in earning a certificate in one of our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The school or school district would cover tuition and possibly other fees associated with the program.

Concurrent Enrollment is where a student is attending college while enrolled in high school. At Emily Griffith, we do not offer individual courses. The student must understand they are enrolling in a program to earn a certificate in that program.

Check with your high school counselor to find out if you are eligible. We serve high school students 15 years or older (age restrictions on select programs), students within schools or districts that have an active memorandum of understanding with Emily Griffith Technical College, students who have qualified test scores that show college readiness, along with a concurrent enrollment agreement signed by all required parties. Learn more about statewide eligibility here.

It starts with your interest in the particular program that we offer. You begin the conversation with your parent(s) or guardian(s) and high school counselor to see if our program is right for you! Also, your high school counselor will be the best person to know if your high school schedule will allow you to attend Emily Griffith at the same time. Your high school counselor will help you with the admissions and registration process.

  • College Select: Students will attend Emily Griffith Technical College and take courses to earn a certificate in their desired program at either our Main, Branch or Multimedia and Video Production campus. We only offer programs, not standalone courses. Students when applying and registering need to understand that there is the expectation that they will complete the program and there is a strong level of commitment.
  • High School Select: There are a select number of high schools that offer courses within a specific Emily Griffith program curriculum. We currently partner with Colorado Early College of Denver, George Washington High School, Montbello Career & Technical High School, and Vista Academy. Learn more about admissions and registration by reaching out to the high school. Space and courses at these schools are limited and are subject to change.

This opportunity gives the student a head start on their college education, along with gaining experience and rigor of college courses. Other benefits include:

  • Lower the cost of college
  • Increase their academic options
  • Prepare them for a seamless transfer into college
  • Allow access to college coursework

ASCENT (Accelerating Students Through Concurrent Enrollment program) is a fifth-year high school program that allows students to enroll at a community college as a full-time student for one academic year following their 12th grade year. Students will enroll in college courses at no tuition cost to the student (or their families). Additional costs, such as textbooks and student fees may or may not be covered by the school district. Talk with your high school counselor or school district ASCENT coordinator to learn more or read more here.
