EGTC Cosmetology Students Practice the Ghoulish Art of Zombie Make-Up
Cosmetology students of Emily Griffith Technical College will play victims of their own creations as they moan through downtown with up to 30 students stylized by their peers to resemble the walking dead.
This afternoon, the zombies’ nail, hair, and make up applications will begin in classrooms at 2 p.m. and the FLESH MOB will depart from the Emily Griffith Campus at 1860 Lincoln Street about 5 p.m.

“We like our students to have many experiences that relate to ways in which they can utilize their talents and skills in this industry” said Laurie Murdoch, Lead Cosmetology Instructor. “Theatrical and fantasy make-up are in very high demand and we all consider the Flesh Mob to be very timely for the current trend and culture. We are already getting requests in the salon for students to apply Halloween make-up and hair styles, just from the momentum leading up to this exciting event!”
People can vote on the scariest zombie beginning at 12 noon on October 28 at Facebook.com/EmilyGriffithTech
This third annual Flesh Mob of zombies is a creative way EGTC cosmetology students can demonstrate the applicability of their coursework, from the fun of creating a convincing Halloween costume and beyond the typical work styling in salon. Students can graduate from EGTC’s cosmetology program well-prepared for the State exam for licensure and with the confidence to expand their employment opportunities in the creatively-driven fashion industry or on-set for theater, television, or film make-up and character design productions.
EGTC cosmetology students get additional hands-on training in Emily’s Salon, a full-service shop that’s open to the public Monday through Thursday, 8-11:30a.m., 12:30-4 p.m. and 5:30-9 p.m. People are encouraged to call 720-423-4798 to schedule an appointment for nail, waxing, hair and other bargain-priced styling services.
