Prior Learning Credit

Prior learning credit may be earned for a maximum of 15 credits by documentation of college-level learning that entails knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of prior learning experiences:

  • Work or life experiences
  • Correspondence and extension courses
  • Individual study and reading
  • Community and volunteer work
  • Participation in informal course and in-service training sponsored by associations, business, industry, and government

In order to apply for Prior Learning Credit, students must:

  • Be enrolled in other classes
  • Meet with department advisor
  • Complete request for prior learning credit form
  • Pay for cost of class in Treasurer’s Office. Cost is calculated at 50 percent of cost per credit hour.
  • Meet with appropriate instructor for guidelines
  • Complete project/portfolio
  • Request project/portfolio to be graded by instructor
  • See student records for pass/fail to be put on transcript
