Students at Emily Griffith Technical College are expected to attend 100 percent of their course sessions. Should a student’s attendance fall below 80 percent, however, he/she will fail the course.
The following programs have different attendance requirements:
- Dental Assisting – 85 percent
- Medical Assisting – 95 percent
- Nurse Assisting – 88 percent
- Pharmacy Technician – 90 percent
- Phlebotomy – 95 percent
- Practical Nursing – 90 percent
Due to the nature of vocational instruction, make-up work is generally not available to substitute for absences. Rather than receive an F, student may choose to Drop or Withdraw from a course in accordance with the Drop/Withdraw policies stated in the College Catalog and Student Handbook. When a student receives an F for attendance an academic hold will be placed on the student’s account, preventing further registration until reinstatement.
Students withdrawn or failed for poor attendance may be able to register to repeat those courses the next time they are offered on a space available basis. Re-registration will be subject to the Continuous Enrollment policies detailed in the Student Handbook. Permission for re-registration, however, will be required from Instructor, Advisor, and Dean, and will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Students will be responsible for paying for repeated courses as for any other course. Students should be aware that program courses are offered consecutively, and it is generally not possible to continue into subsequent courses until all prior courses have been successfully completed.
